Florida First
Florida First
Many candidates run on a variety of issues and platforms that have no real hope of being effective. As your representative, I aim to put “Florida-First” by re-affirming our state’s “home rule privileges” through the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I often think the general public is unaware of the role of a legislator and that their legislator must act in cooperation with 120 other legislators around the state to accomplish anything with regard to state policy and law.
As of late it appears our legislature is in the business of making laws and rules which often benefit a few and have dire and costly consequences for most. As well intentioned as each may be, it was never the intention of our founders that our laws were to be so restrictive and complicated. Our laws should be easily navigated and understood. Our laws should enhance and protect our freedom and liberties.
District 14 has consistently suffered from increasing crime and taxation, declining schools and employment under the past twenty years of Democratic leadership.
I am proposing a Florida First resolution which reclaims Florida’s home rule privileges under the 10th Amendment of the Constitution.
While Washington D.C. continues to debate energy policy, I know Florida must move first to ensure energy diversity and security for our citizens. Floridians’ must see relief at the pump and in the check out lines.
I know Florida must come first and move first in allowing Florida communities to take back their educational systems. School boards must have the ability to tailor their own programs, including providing work-training programs, to fit their unique needs.
Real leadership is not just about creating tougher laws. Real Leadership is not about having more police. And foremost, real leadership is not about money for more government programs. Real leadership is about pulling the community together - business owners, employees, religious leaders and students - to encourage people to work together to find community solutions to community problems.
