About Sarah

Personal

I am the adoring wife of George “Justin” Lovett, whom I met while attending Florida State University in 1996. My husband and I married November 11th of 2000 and have two beautiful children; Chloe Marie and George “Zane” who are 5 and 3 years old. We have been living in the Riverside/Murray Hill area of Jacksonville since 2003, while both my husband and I have lived in Florida since the mid-80’s we consider ourselves proud Floridians! Since we have diverse upbringings we fellowship at various churches including The Church of the Brethren and attend mass at St. Paul’s where our daughter Chloe will be attending school this fall. In March of 2006 we consolidated our family efforts and my parents now reside with us in Murray Hill. We feel so blessed to live in an extended family environment and we are of the opinion that it really does take a village to raise a family. The most important and cherished aspect of our lives are our family and friends.

General Experience Biography

At the age of 14 I took my first official job babysitting for neighbors. I then began working as a lane attendant at a local bowling alley and shortly after was hired on at a local Walgreen’s as a pharmacy technician, which at that time was my intention to become a pharmacist.

After being accepted to FAMU’s pharmacy school as a freshman I continued to work as a pharmacy technician. Though I made excellent grades and was top of my class, I was awarded only one scholarship from St. Petersburg Greyhound Racing establishment. After careful consideration of my options I used the monies to put a down payment on a trailer in Tallahassee, which was much more affordable than rent on a local apartment and would at least return something upon graduation. Once I moved to Tallahassee I transferred to a local Walgreen’s and continued my journey.

After several semesters, many credit hours, working holidays in the pharmacy, and racking up significant amounts of student loans I began considering other cost effective schooling options for different career path potentials.

Eventually, I transferred to Florida State University’s College of Business and took a job with a local dentist. My duties included filing insurance, collections and office organization. As I continued my search for a career path I stumbled upon real estate and appraisal courses; though not a life ambition, appraisal research intrigued me. As always, my funds were low so I took another job, as a waitress at Stake-n Ale and continued on with my education. I then took an internship with a local appraisal company, so if you are keeping score I was working three jobs and attending school just to make ends meet at that time. When I took the internship it was the first time I had made minimum wage since I had started college, which is why I had to hold my other jobs to “pay the bills”.

After I graduated, in December 1998 I was hired on as an apprentice and eventually became a State Certified General Appraiser. As an appraiser I worked with various firms and specialized in low-income housing and nursing developments.

I eventually ended up in Jacksonville, working for one of the largest appraisal firms and honing my skills saving equity positions. When I became pregnant with my second child I began working more from home. With the birth of my second child, my husband and I agreed that I would stay home. During my pregnancy due to the lack of birthing options in the Jacksonville area, I studied and became a doula and childbirth educator. With increased knowledge, our home birth experience I worked diligently to expose others to such options. I continued helping other women by attending births and coaching them during birth. I have attended over 50 births and have volunteered my services to families serving in the military and women in financial need.

As I learned more about birth, I explored possibilities of becoming a midwife. However, my role as activist manifested in to the Legislative Chair for Florida Friends of Midwives and this type of grassroots involvement is something I realized, I have always thrived on. During my journey, I continued to gather information about many health care related issues including nutrition. This lead to organic and natural foods becoming an interest, so as a favor to a friend, I began coordinating a buying club for the local community. The buying club has grown to be one of United Natural Foods largest clubs in the United States.

I have had the opportunity to explore a wide range of employment and community service through such initiatives. I am continuously learning new things and educating myself. With each passing year, it seems that our lifestyle, choices and prosperity continues to be threatened by government interference and taxation. It is with this summarized journey that I find myself at this point, with my family and community, wanting to use this knowledge and experience to be a voice. It is time our voices are heard; it is time to remind our government that they are servants not masters; we must once again find ourselves for the people, by the people.
